BCM – 112 Fictional DA

Introduction

Everlight Park is a fictional digital artefact. Unlike most amusement parks, Everlight Park does
not utilize money as means of exchange, visitors instead trade their laughter, memories, and
stories with the rides and attractions of the park. At the center of the park is a glowing fox-like
spirit called Lumi. Lumi’s main purpose is to resonate guidance and initiate the feeling of
emotional support from its soft glow and pure harmless look, encouraging a feeling of security
and reassurance to visitors. The main goal is to give the feeling of companionship, as the
people need to feel that they are being supported not judged which will then initiate the feeling
of safety to be able to self discover.
All in all, the artefact centers around the idea of escapism, emotional recovery, and
self-exploration.

Creative Process & Development

The creative process and development of the Everlight Park involved an iterative process of
design using (Chat GPT) an AI tool for generating images. As time has gone on, more specific
features have been added, such as the glowing entrance, “Memory Train,” and character Lumi.
The later stages of refining this idea have been focused on changing aspects such as lighting,
realism.

Learning Moments

Initially, I thought I could use one detailed prompt to generate the perfect image. However, the
first image generated lacked specificity and did not align with my expectations. I thus came up
with a more strategic approach to prompt engineering by adding specific elements.
At first, I was heavily focused on incorporating fantasy aspects such as glowing lights and magic
effects. As a result, I came to understand that blending fantasy with realistic features such as
greenery is essential in creating a believable environment.
However, I soon learned that lighting, colour, and character design shape how the audience
interprets the scene.

Connection to Class Concepts

The idea of representation, as discussed in BCM112 Week 2, is also demonstrated in the
creation of Everlight Park, where the park and Lumi represent comfort and guidance, as
“simulacra, the signs and symbols, are meant to represent some form of reality” . Moreover, the
artefact is an example of Baudrillard’s idea of hyperreality, as demonstrated in BCM112 Week 3,
where the park is an ideal representation of happiness that is emotionally real but not based on
actual events, where “representations feel (or are) more real than reality”

Supporting Documents

Prompt: generate an image of a magical glowing amusement park at sunset, living carousel horses, colorful rides and Ferris wheel, tiny glowing animals guiding visitors, cotton candy stands ,whimsical fantasy style

Analysis: This prompt set the fantasy theme but was too broad, resulting in a less detailed output

Prompt: generate an image of a joyful magical amusement park called Everlight Park, glowing carousel with wise living horses, colorful roller coasters and a shining Ferris wheel, warm lantern lights everywhere, tiny glowing animals guiding visitors through the park, people laughing, cotton candy and popcorn stands,Sunset sky in pink and purple, magical atmosphere.

Analysis: This initial prompt clearly outlined the general idea and look of the park. Yet, as one can see, the response
lacked depth and concreteness.

Prompt: regenerate the image add a giant glowing gate made of lights the entrance A ticket booth
where visitors receive a golden ticket that glows when they feel happy. Add a ride called
“The Memory Train” but dont remove the horses one add piano notes in the sky

Analysis: This prompt added specific features, improving detail and strengthening the narrative of the scene.

Prompt: I dont want people to be holding backpacks and add more light

Analysis: This version concentrated on the removal of unnecessary details and the addition of more lighting.

Prompt: Now include the main character like the glowing character that runs the place like a small fox-like creature, with bright eyes and soft sparks that trail behind him as he moves.

Analysis: This prompt introduced the main character, adding focus and strengthening the narrative of the scene.

Prompt: lumi is made of warm golden light, make him flout and add a tag around his neck with his
name.

Analysis: This prompt refined the character design, adding detail and making Lumi more visually distinctive.

Prompt: I want to regenerate this I want more greenery and less lights a bit more realistic dont
change anything else

Analysis: This prompt reduced excessive lighting and added greenery, creating a more balanced and realistic scene.

Prompt: regenerate I want this more lights more flowers on the trees and more greenery and keep
the sky pink and lumi is floating

Analysis: This version included more greenery and lighting, providing a balance between fantasy and reality.

Reflection

One unexpected issue with this project was finding a balance between fantasy and realism. The
initial focus on glowing objects led to a rather unnatural scene. It became clear that using
natural elements such as plants added depth to the scene.
This showed me that visual storytelling requires balance.

Conclusion

Everlight Park is a digital artefact created by conceptualizing fantasy and designing to
understand the process of emotional healing and self-understanding. The digital artefact helps
to understand the concepts of escapism and visual storytelling through an iterative process of
creativity with the help of AI tools.
